Why I Teach…
1) As a teacher, I want to make a lasting impact in my student's lives. I believe education is the key to our future, and every student has the potential to make a difference in the world. My mission as a teacher is to provide a secure, caring and stimulating environment where students can learn.
My Personal Theory of Teaching…
My teaching philosophy is primarily grounded in the belief that adequate education is a significant cornerstone in the development of individuals. As a Teacher, I am continually educating and challenging myself to learn. I believe passing the importance of education onto members of our society is important. I am a lifelong learner and a positive role model to the students. I love that every day of teaching is unique and gives me opportunities to learn from my surroundings. I strive to make my school and community a better place for all. My goal as a teacher is to support the social, emotional, and academic needs of each student giving each student an opportunity to learn to their fullest potential.
What has Prepared me for Teaching?
I become a teacher is to be part of a team. During my Twenty years at Discovery Elementary, I learned the importance of cooperating with teachers, families, administrators, students and the community. I will go beyond the curriculum by teaching students to communicate effectively, collaborate with others, use critical thinking to solve problems, be creative and responsible citizens. My Elementary Education journey includes courses at both St. Cloud State University and Bemidji State University. I spent approximately 200 hours in classrooms, supporting a broad range of ages from infants, toddlers, kindergarten through fifth grade.
How I teach…
I promoted school readiness and self regulation with children ages three to five from low-income families supporting development in my Head Start classroom. I use Conscious Discipline techniques in all my teaching methods. My room is filled with visual to reach all children in my classroom. I worked as a paraprofessional in a school for 20 years, this experience taught me to be compassionate, flexible, creative, open-minded, positive and sympathetic when interacting with students.
Sincerely,
Sharlet Mullen
