Second Grade Natural resources add on material
Today we are going to talk about Natural Resources. A natural Resources is part of nature, it grows or reproduces naturally.
Can you name some natural resources? (List what student suggest)
These things include water (seas and fresh water), land, soils, rocks, forests (vegetation), animals (including fish), fossil fuels and minerals.
Ever since the earth was inhabited, humans and other life forms have depended on things that exist freely in nature to survive. They are called Natural Resources and are the basis of life on earth.
Sometimes, natural resources can be used to produce something. For instance, we can use a tree from the forest to produce wood to build things or paper.
Every item in your home was made from a natural resource. The tea mug, electricity at home, bread, clothes, you name them: each of them came from a natural resource.
A renewable natural resource is something that can be reproduced or replaced. Plant, animals, trees, water, sun and wind. Many of these items we need to take care of so they can reproduce.
In what form do people consume natural resources? Food, water, the plates we use and they need to be washed. The clothes we wear, the fuel, the medicines we use. What about the buses use to get us to school or how does our house and school stay warm?
The average per consumes 200 lbs. of resources per day.
